5 Easy Things You Can Do Right Now to Improve Your Health and Well-Being
Cameron Gee • May 16, 2022

Staying healthy and mentally well can be a challenge sometimes, but we all owe it to our bodies to take care of ourselves so we can continue to take care of others. Including easy health strategies into your everyday activities can take some time, but it will be worth it in the long run as you continue living your busy life.

Midtown Trainers shares a few things you can do to incorporate healthy thinking and doing into your everyday routines:

1. Hydrate!

It’s important to make sure you’re getting enough water in your daily life. According to the Mayo Clinic, men should be getting around 16 cups of fluid intake (which includes about eight cups of water) per day, and women should be getting around 12 cups. When you don’t get enough water, your body can’t function the way you need it to, so make sure to get the appropriate amount!

2. Work on being mindful

Meditation and mindfulness activities can also add to your overall health and well-being from both a mental and physical standpoint. The practice of mindful meditation involves sitting, focusing on your breathing, and trying to empty your mind of intrusive thoughts. People who practice these activities are calmer, happier, and healthier.

Yoga is another way to achieve mindfulness and practice meditative techniques, as well as a great way to exercise and work out some of the stresses you put on your body on a daily basis. Having a regular exercise routine is part of living a healthy lifestyle, so you’re achieving two goals with one activity when you do yoga. You can also use exercise apps like Seven and Freeletics Bodyweight to help you stay fit. These are great if you live a busy lifestyle. 3. Get enough sleep

Getting the recommended amount of sleep is critical for overall health and wellness. For adults over 18 years old, you should be getting seven or more hours per night. This means you need to practice good sleep hygiene, as well. Effective sleep hygiene could include things like staying away from screens before bed, waking up and going to bed at the same time each day, and following a specific bedtime routine each night before you go to sleep. These things will help signal to your body that it’s time to shut down for the night.

Make these adjustments gradually—it won’t happen overnight, but incorporating a good sleep hygiene routine into your daily activities is one of the most important things you can do. If your current living situation or location isn’t conducive to getting a good night’s rest, look into alternative arrangements like moving to an apartment in a quieter neighborhood. If possible, rent a place that’s not in a high-traffic area or near a hospital or firehouse where the inevitable sirens can be a big distraction.

4. Bring in a pet

Owning and caring for a pet has several mental health benefits. Having a constant companion at your side nips loneliness in the bud, and helping them thrive provides a sense of purpose. They’re also good for our physical health; studies have shown that owning a dog is good for our heart and we’re also encouraged to get up and get out to walk them and play with them. Be sure the first few days and weeks with your new pup aren't stressful by preparing for their arrival. Stock up on things like food, toys, and a litter box for puppies who aren’t yet housebroken.

5. Deal with work stress appropriately

It’s possible that you’re anxious due to your work environment. According to the American Institute of Stress, 80 percent of Americans feel stressed on the job, so you’re not alone. Dealing with stress can be a huge health issue for a lot of people, so you need to make sure you are taking steps to lower your own anxiety. Having a stress-free environment to come home to can be helpful; be sure to keep your home clean and decluttered. A messy environment can exacerbate stress.

If your work is no longer challenging or you just plain don’t enjoy doing it anymore, it might be time to consider a career change. Online degree programs make it easier to achieve your doctorate while still working full time. For instance, you can get a doctoral degree in Business Administration and learn how to solve organizational problems, position yourself for career growth, or maybe even start your own business.

Go forth and work on your health

These activities can be easily incorporated into your everyday routine. Once you have these things down, you can work on doing more exercise and eating healthier foods.
